WIP Wednesday

Do you remember me mentioning some exciting news a couple of weeks ago? Well, my mom called me up one day really excited and told me to write down some information. Turns out one of her customers from work was opening up a new fabric shop here in my town. She was my age and a modern quilter like me and she wanted to meet me! So I gave her a call and we got to talking and really hit it off. She has offered me a job and wants me to teach classes!! We're still working out the details about all of that but in the meantime we really have struck up a great little friendship.

Anyway, my point to all of this rambling is that she called me up last week in a bit of a panic. The local quilt show had a vendor drop out at the last minute and she was offered the opening and had FIVE days to prepare. She doesn't have any shop samples yet since she's only been open for a couple of weeks so she wanted to know if I had any quilts she could borrow to put on display. I wanted her to have some that were still fresh and crisp, in other words ones that hadn't been slept with and washed a million times. So I set to work on getting some of my WIPs as close to done as possible for her.

I was able to completely finish piecing the top of the Neptune quilt

It finishes at about 40"x40" and I am in love with it! It will be adorning a wall in my house somewhere, once we finally get around to this painting we've been talking about for oh, about 6 months now. Though it does look quite nice against the gray of my bedroom wall there. Maybe I have just found the perfect spot!

I also made massive progress on Little Faces. When she called it still hadn't been quilted. I was just stumped on how I wanted it done. I finally got the bright idea to hit up The Free Motion Quilting Project website to look for ideas and found a winner right away.

It's done to the point of handsewing the binding down and I'm steady at work on it. I hope to have it finished to show off tomorrow so be sure to check back!

I've finally (FINALLY!) started cutting the solid for the Double Wedding Ring.

Yes, those would be toddler scribbles all over my cutting mat.

Here's how it will look when I get it put together!

I have the templates all traced on the fabric and just need to keep on trucking. I'm excited to start piecing this one.

The other thing I set to work on is something that I unfortunately can't show off yet. I know, I'm such a tease. See, it's a gift for someone special and I don't know how often she reads the blog so I'd better wait until she receives it. It's at the point of hand sewing the binding down too so I'll hopefully be able to show it off real soon.

Last but not least, I got a fabric bundle picked out for our quilt along.

Cosmic Burst Quilt Along new fabric choices

This was the second bundle I put together, the first one just wasn't coming together in the pattern for me. And check me out, embracing gray and all. Y'all know I'm not a fan but I'm going to do it. I found this palette on Design Seeds and it just spoke to me. Plus, this will be hanging in my living room. I needed to tone it down a bit from my usual, colorful palettes :)

I've figured out where in the pattern these will be going and am ready to start cutting and get the first post up. Cutting instructions will be up on Friday so don't forget to come back!

And I just realized I owe you all some pictures from Pay it Forward #2! Karen and I went shopping together when I was visiting and picked fabrics to make aprons and chef hats for this friend's children. I had the task of making the aprons, she did the hats. Here's Bug modeling the aprons for me before I shipped them off.

So there you have it. It's been busy busy around here and I am on such a roll that hopefully I'll have some more finishes to share soon!

Linking it up! Hope everybody is having a great week!

So many lovely things: your Neptune quilt is great, the aprons are cute (but they are overshadowed by an even cuter model!) and the Little Faces Quilt is very sweet - I love the quilting.
