Janice's Super Spooky String Quilt

Hey Hey, Cauldron Crafters!

Today, we have a visitor with a rockin' Halloween Quilt Top to share. Welcome, Janice!

Hi! I'm Janice, and I blog (very sporadically) at http://andanotherthing-janice.blogspot.com/. I was lucky enough to get into a quilting bee through Flickr last year, and have had so much fun making blocks with my Beemates! When MY month rolled around, I knew exactly what I wanted.

See, here's the strange part; I really don't like Halloween very much. When I was a kid, I was scared of EVERYTHING. I mean, there were episodes of Star Trek that I wasn't allowed to watch, because my parents knew it would just lead to nightmares. That's pretty bad! But I have this goal of having a quilt for every holiday, and I knew that if left to my own devices I would never make a Halloween quilt on my own. So this seemed like the perfect answer, and man, did those girls deliver! I can honestly say that I LOVE this quilt!

I sent out the fabric, (all bought on sale off season) and nine and a half inch squares of paper for paper piecing. I have to admit, some people weren't thrilled with the idea of making these rather labor intensive blocks. I LOVE string quilts, but it's definitely one of those things that you kind of forget how hard it is until you get the bug to make another one.

When I got them back, all those bias edges hadn't traveled very well, so to solve the problem I starched the ever-loving daylights out of them, (seriously. This quilt top could stand up on its own. It's like cardboard! But it'll all wash out.) and trimmed them all to a uniform size. I actually have one more row to add on, then it's off to my long arm quilter for some spiderwebs!

Thanks for stopping by, Janice!

Don't forget, if you're so inspired by all these awesome crafts, make sure to link up to Fabric Donkey for a chance to win some fabric!
