A Spooky Finish for Fabric Tuesday

Hola, Cauldron Crafters!

I've shared through some WIP Wednesday posts that I've been working on a Haunted House Quilt using Riley Blake Design's Boo to You line from last year... it's finally DONE! I can't even share how excited I am.
This quilt started out by winning a bundle of Boo to You fat quarters in May 2010. I slowly added some fillers as I went.. just some basic purple prints from wherever. (One came from my grandmother's stash, so I don't even know what it is!)
Add 6 yards of Kona Coal and 2 yards of Orange Spiderweb Print from Boo to You..

Toss in some Wonky House blocks ala UnRuly Quilting, some Topsy Turvy squares ala Moda Bake Shop..

shake it all up, and BAM!

Are you totally in love? I am! To show you true love, lemme just show you for a second what I did to get photos of this beast...
I climbed this:

With a giant rope in my hand, in the rain, with a 3 year old running around underneath me, yelling "YOU OKAY, MOMMY?!"
Love, I tell ya.

I think my favorite part of this quilt, aside from the rad little Boo to You Characters, is the quilting. I was introduced to variegated thread by Aurifil and I am loving it! I used their Zebra variegated - black, white, and shades of gray. It couldn't have been any more perfect. A little stitch in the ditch around the houses and pieced border, then smoke coming from each of the little chimneys was just the start...

I tossed in some bats, ghosts, witch hats, tombstones, cauldrons, clouds, stars, spiderwebs and spiders, a night sky, a pumpkin patch complete with jack o'lanterns... oh, how beautiful!

Seriously, a blast to quilt. I used templates for some of my quilting - I have centered bats right in the middle of the top and bottom borders that were done with this Bertie Bat template.  They were super helpful in making sure the bats were consistantly sized and placed - plus they're cute! I did a lot of it freehand, but if you're worried about your designs turning out a little wonky, there are some really cool quilting templates you can pick up at http://www.quiltingcreations.com/ - and if you head on over and visit the Fabric Donkey, she has a coupon code just for the Cauldron Crafters (enter Halloween11 at checkout for 10% off)! A little bit of chalk to trace the templates with, and you're good to go!

I'm linking this up to Fabric Tuesday - go show some love to the other folks!

Also linking up to Celebrate Color. I know my Haunted House quilt is filled with lots of colors and some don't evoke thoughts of fall for everyone, but.. man, what better part of fall is there than Halloween? Love it!
