A Simple Pillow Cover Turned Halloween

Welcome, Cauldron Crafters!

I've mentioned oodles of times before that I just love pillow covers. They're such a great way to spruce up a room and give it a whole new look. If you just make covers for each season or holiday, you have minimal things to store as well. I remember growing up and having full plush pillows for Christmas that came out... what the junk? I'm not storing whole pillows! So I make pillow covers to just slip over my existing throw pillows!

Today's tutorial is a simple zig-zag design using Halloween fabrics. My fabric choices are from Eerie Alley (the hearses and blue owls), Moda's Spooktacular (the orange with ravens) and... believe it or not, a Christmas line. That green is just too eerie to belong in a Christmas line! My solids are Kona Coal and a grungy black from Max and Whiskers.

First, we're going to cut ourselves some 5" squares. You will need a total of 8 solid squares for each cover, and 4 of each print.

Join up each of your solid squares with a print according to Julie's HST tutorial.

Then, working only with one print at a time, start pairing them up! You will need four of each type of pair:
Make sure you are inverting which fabric is on the inside, forming the triangle!
We will now form half of our first zig zag by joining two of your paired up HSTs as shown:
You should now have two mini-blocks that look like the above.
Place 'em side by side and join them together!
See?! Half of your zig zag top is done!
Next, you will repeat the above steps with your additional HSTs in your second print. Join the two rows together to form a top like so:

Back according to the Easy Overlapping Pillow Back cover tutorial, and slip onto your pillow form! This tutorial fits a 16" pillow form.

Rinse and Repeat as many times as you'd like!

(Tutorial on the Mummy Pillow will be coming soon!)

Don't forget to add photos of your Halloween projects to the Flickr Group and link up to join the giveaway over at Fabric Donkey!

These are adorable, and easy enough that I think even I could pull them off! Thanks so much for sharing!
